We have one hearty little baby. Today was Mathew's 2 month well baby visit. He's just a couple days shy of 2 months, but he weighed in at 13lbs. 1oz. and 23 in. long. He's in the 80th percentile for his weight and the 50th percentile for his height and head circumference. He's a little chunker and I love it! More for mommy to kiss on! ;) His pediatrician was very pleased with his progress. He's holding his head up wonderfully when placed on his belly and tracking things with his eyes, smiling socially, etc. He did pretty well for his appointment and didn't seem to mind as she looked and poked around a bit. She's so gentle and kind with him and we really appreciate and feel comfortable with her as his doctor. Hopefully we'll find one in Iowa that we like just as well.
After his exam it was time for the dreaded vaccinations. Uggg I'm sure every parent must hate this part. I can't even handle taking our dogs to get shots, so I certainly wasn't looking forward to offering up my precious son to the woman bearing all the needles! Luckily Mat was the strong one and held MJ's little arms while Mommy looked the other way and just offered lots of kisses in between shots. I don't think it was the shots that hurt MJ so much as he just didn't like being held down. Can't say I blame him! I would've screamed too! Vaccinations are a tough call in some ways. It was the first of many times that I am sure I will question my decision and wonder if I made the choice that is best for my child. I'd been doing some reading and had formulated some questions of my concerns and the doctor was happy to answer them. I still think I held back a little though and already wish I would've asked a little bit more. It doesn't come easy for my personality as it's just not in my nature, but now that I am his advocate I realize asking questions and gaining knowledge is so important. It is something I strive to become more comfortable with. It's not that I was against vaccinating, but I just want to understand what the vaccines are, what they're made of, and what the risks vs. the benefits are. While I am very interested in following an alternative vaccine schedule, at this appointment today we went with the recommended vaccines. That's not to say I'll continue this route. I think it will depend on how he reacts today as well as the individual vaccines and doses that are suggested at each point. I hope the decision was the right one and pray that God will give me the reassurance and confidence I need as well as look after Mathew as his little body adjusts to these vaccinations entering his system. He doesn't have to go back for 2 months, which will be his last visit here in Florida. I can't imagine how many more pounds he'll gain by then! :)
