We celebrated our first holiday with Mathew this past weekend. I look forward to the years ahead when he can hunt for Easter eggs and get an Easter basket, but for now I'm content in enjoying this stage and I think he's the cutest little Easter egg around!
It was a pretty low key day. Our first Easter ever not going to church (which felt REALLY weird), but at our church everyone lines up outside just to get in and get a seat as soon as the doors open. Last Easter we ended up standing. I didn't feel up to facing the big crowd with him in tow, so we decided to stay home. It was an especially thankful Easter though as I am amazed by God's grace! Jeff came over in the afternoon and joined us for lunch. It was my first time cooking a full meal since being home and it was surprising just how accomplished it felt to pull it all together and get hot food on the table. Funny the things that make me proud these days!
We also ventured out a little together by taking Mathew on a walk along the trail nearby, grabbing a bite out to eat and then going to the grocery store. He fussed some on the walk and at dinner, but did pretty well overall. He'd had it by the time we got to the grocery store and went in to meltdown mode. Mat ended up walking him around outside and sitting with him in the car while I finished up. Basically it boils down to the fact that MJ does not like to be in his car seat, stroller, bouncy seat, crib, (you get the point) if he is awake and you are nearby. He fully plans on crying his little eyes out until you pick him up. He's definitely a cuddle bunny and wants to be held anytime he is awake and probably prefers it when he's asleep too. Luckily he's so darn cute that we don't mind holding him lots. It just makes it a little tricky when going out. Not sure if that's something he'll outgrow or is just his personality. Live and learn!
