Grandma Great

There's something special about the love of a grandmother, and a great grandmother for that matter. I'm sure I won't fully understand the love a grandma feels until I am one myself, but I've been lucky to have two very influential grandmothers in my life, and one amazing great grandmother as well. My last living grandma, Grandma Dorsie, or "Grandma Great," as we call her to MJ, is in the final stages of life. She has developed a cancerous brain tumor and has deteriorated quite rapidly over the last several months. I've always been quite close to her and could go on and on about wonderful memories involving her. Being closer to home these last few months has been a blessing. I've been able to spend time with her this summer as well as during a couple weekend trips back to St. Louis since then. It's been an interesting perspective to be experiencing both the beginning of life, as I witness MJ grow and develop, as well as the end of life, as I witness my grandma's condition worsen. As sad as I am at the thought of losing her quite soon, and seeing my mom lose her mother, I am so thankful for the many wonderful times we have spent together. She was so supportive on my journey to motherhood and even in her condition now, she still asks about MJ and enjoys showing off his pictures. This past weekend, we made a very quick trip home to celebrate my Dad's 60th birthday (more to come later) and of course pay a visit to grandma as well. I expect that this was quite possibly the last time I will see her alive, so it was important for me to have her see Mathew once again as well. I captured a few pictures of this moment. It's pretty neat the connection that a baby and an elderly person have-so interested in each other and full of love. I know that I will tell MJ all about his Grandma Great, and show him these pictures, for years to come!

I just spent the evening with grandma great since grandma gigi is sickly. I enjoyed an evening with alot of quiet alone time. She was quite alert most of the time I was there and was even quite funny at times. I hope she is sleeping at this point. Those are pictures you will cherish forever! hugs....
