Raptors!

Since moving to Dubuque I have been quite impressed with the plethora of family friendly activities that constantly seem to be going on, many of which are free.  Yesterday they were having an Eagle Watching event just a couple miles from our house.  To be honest it didn't sound terribly exciting, but it was free and a good way to get out of the house for a bit during these cold winter months.  I couldn't believe the amount of people in attendance and all the activities set up for people of all ages to enjoy.  The Grand River Center (our convention center) was full of booths, displays, treats, games for kids, etc.  They offered three different shows throughout the day and we timed it so that we could see the "Raptors" show so that we could see a live bald eagle.  MJ was such a good little trooper and sat still, okay well not really still...but stayed in our area, for almost a whole hour.  A big cup of Cheerios didn't hurt either.  :)

Milk and Cheerios help keep a little guy content.

During the show we were able to see a hawk, owl, falcon, and bald eagle.  The owl was mommy's favorite!  I'm sure MJ wasn't overly impressed, but he did like watching and pointing at the birds with mommy and daddy.

We even got a very up close view of the falcon.

They were running trolley rides to go Eagle Watching at the lock and dam in Dubuque, but since nap time was quickly approaching we headed home after the show.  Perhaps something to look forward to next time!

Wow! That sure sounded like fun, interesting, educational and FREE? I am continually impressed by the city of Dubuque...really.
Even though MJ is a little young to take it all in, how blessed he is to be exposed and experience such things! Those things enrich a child's life so very much.

Hmm...interesting?! lol Glad you guys had a nice family day out!! Did you hear that story of how this owl attacked a chihauahua that was being walked by its owner in Chicago?! Thankfully he had a vest on so the owl didn't puncture him too much! Apparently, they're mean..and all this time, I just thought they liked tootsie pops! x, Mindy
