It always seems like once Halloween hits, the rest of the holidays quickly follow suit! I felt like we'd been talking about Halloween for so long because we'd always tell MJ that his new baby brother or sister would be arriving "right before Halloween". That saying had been coming off our lips for the past several months! Halloween seems like it's become a week long celebration with the many events Dubuque has to offer, not to mention that our street makes Halloween legendary!
We definitely took it a bit more low key this year since we'd just welcomed Cooper into the world a couple weeks prior, but before he was born, we'd thought up our family costume idea, and we were excited to celebrate the holiday with our little minions! MJ really has a thing for minions, so the idea was chosen with him in mind and he quickly approved!
Gigi and MJ headed to the Roschek Building the Saturday before Halloween for "Day of Scare". It's basically a community event where local vendors set up tables and booths and pass out candy. I've yet to go, but Gigi graciously took MJ this year. It sounds like it was a mad house and probably not something we'll do again next year. He came home with a bag full of goodies though, so it was all good in his eyes. :)
Probably our favorite Halloween event is at Mat's work. The dorms at Loras College open up for little ones to come trick or treating. It was adroable a couple years ago when MJ really "got it" for the first time, and this year Charlotte stole the show as she quicly grasped just how wonderful the concept of receiving candy at each door is!
Charlotte was our purple crazy minion. Her bag is kind of hiding the front of her dress here, but there's a minion face on the front. If you know Charlotte, you know this sutis her well!

Of course the family wouldn't be complete without our newest little baby minion. Thanks to my friend who knitted his teeny tiny baby minion hat, along with MJ's and mine as well.
This was us gathered in the lobby of one of the dorms, along with MJ's little friend Adam, all ready to trick or treat!
Mama minion and baby minion ready for some fun!
Daddy Gru and MJ minion!
He was one cute trick or treater this year! Not only did he have a blast himself, but he was so kind and sweet to his sister making sure she got candy at every stop. At our own house, he was more interested in handing out the candy himself than he was in receiving it. He even was caught giving some of his own candy away. Ha!
My work, Two by Two, is just down the street from our house, and as a fundraiser they were taking Halloween pictures. We were thankful for the opportunity to capture our whole family. Cooper is tucked inside the wrap snuggled up against me because it was quite a chilly evening!
Mat's business club students came to our house to hand out candy to all the trick or treaters this year. This was a service project for them and a huge help to us! I had my hands full with Cooper much of the time, and when not it allowed me, as well as Mat to enjoy experiencing Halloween with our own children quite a bit. Gigi and Pop Pop were also in town and a huge help with the kids. They took a turn taking them out trick or treating, too.
Halloween in Dubuque, and particularly on our street, is definitely an affair to remember! Time to start thinking of family costume ideas for next year...
