We have been lucky enough to spend a lot of time together as a little family this summer, and once returning from our St. Louis trip, we made it a goal to explore some free attractions in and around Dubuque. Dubuque has a Children's Zoo, although I wasn't really expecting much because very few people even mention it. It's basically just a small park with some animals, but it was just perfect for MJ, and instead of being a zoo really, it was more of a farm with animals like cows, goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, horse, etc. Since it was so small scale he could just walk around on his own and explore. This was his first time seeing any farm animals, and I couldn't help wonder what he was thinking as all the animals he sees in his book were right there in front of him! He started off just a little bit leery...

But, that certainly didn't last for long. He quickly became comfortable with all the animals. He made the "moooo" sound for the cow and just giggled when the goat nibbled all over his fingers.

I guess all the nibbling didn't hurt a bit because he was happy to let the ram have a little taste of his fingers as well. It was a great morning and a place I am sure MJ will continue to enjoy during his toddler years!
