Did You Ever Doubt Me??

Look, Ma!.....FEET!

Yum, yum, yum

Who knew my little piggies could be so delish?!

A week ago today, Mathew was evaluated by the Early Access Teacher. We had originally been referred to Early Steps (same program, different name) in Florida when Mathew was discharged from the NICU. Due to his lack of oxygen at birth, he is classified at being at risk for possible delays that could arise during development throughout his childhood. Early Access uses a team approach (teacher, nurse, physical therapist, speech therapist, etc) to evaluate little ones and provide services free of charge to help children have an early advantage. During his screening last week the teacher interacted with MJ a bit and then went through a checklist of many milestones with me to see which ones MJ has met, is working towards, or hasn't yet met. It was so reassuring that she had such positive feedback regarding MJ's development. I've thought he seems right on track and making great progress, but it's always affirming to hear it from someone else more trained in that field.
Of all the things she went over with me, there were only two skills that Mathew wasn't yet doing. One of them was putting his toes in his mouth. He discovered his feet a couple months ago, but touching them and looking at them was about the extent of it. He'd never even really appeared to make much effort to move his feet towards his mouth, but she assured me that he would probably discover this soon. Wouldn't ya know it, 2 days later he decided to chow down on his stubby little piggies?! I couldn't help but snap a few pictures. Who knew a mama could be so proud to see a little boy with a temporary foot fetish? :) Sorry for ever doubting you sweet boy!
We're so proud of how far he's come and know that this is such a huge blessing. Things could have turned out so much worse and we are extremely thankful that Mathew seems to be thriving and loving life each day.....even when loving life means sucking on his stinky little toes!

Yay! Such GREAT news! Even me with my "germ" problem wouldn't mind Mathew's little piggies. Give him some hugs and kisses. LeAnne
