In mid-July, shortly returning from vacation (which I still need to blog about), we had enrolled both kids in swim lessons. This was Charlotte's first time, so she was in Aquatots, where a parent is in the water with them. MJ was ready for his first independent style lessons and was enrolled in Preschool Beginner.
Weather wise, we really lucked out and had a great two weeks for our lessons! We had one day with some rain, but otherwise it was beautifully sunny each day. The second week of our lessons was the hottest week of the summer, so the pool was an amazing way to spend each afternoon. We are so fortunate with a great schedule this summer, and Mat and I were both able to attend lessons each day. It was SO much easier having two adults on hand. MJ's lessons were first, so we'd feed Charlotte lunch, picnic style, while MJ was swimming. Then, Charlotte and I had our turn swimming while Mat sat with MJ so he could eat his lunch. Once lessons were over, we then spent many of the afternoons staying at the kiddy pool for some extra fun in the water! It really was a great way to spend the couple weeks. Both kids LOVED it!

All smiles on the side of the pool awaiting his turn. There were 3 other kiddos in his group.
Practicing with the kickboard
Coming down the waterslide, very slowly and cautiously might I add, on the last day.
MJ is definitely our cautious child. He is hesitant to put his head under water or jump in, but he really did make good progress during his lessons. He gained confidence with floating on his back and did MUCH more with his swim instructor than he'll do with Mat or I. It's funny to see the differences in MJ and Charlotte. When we did Aquatots with him, he was much more timid than Charlotte proved to be. And now at 4, he's more cautious than she is. Love them and their little personality differences that make them unique!

The lifeguard took her down the waterslide for me on the last day, and she came down with a big smile and giggles!
No fear for this child! The best was to describe her at swim lessons was fearless but stubborn. She loved going under the water and jumping in from the side. She loved to sing songs and splash in the water. Anything that was somewhat structured though and involved practicing a specific skill like floating, kickboarding, paddling, etc. she'd only do for a minute and then fuss and whine to make her opinion known that she was DONE!
One of many times standing on the edge ready to jump in to mommy or daddy!
Showing off her first swimming certificate!
